The Colorado Alliance of Visionary Artists is a growing network of creatives residing in and/or hailing from colorful Colorado.

Colorado is home to a vast and expanding network of young, up-and-coming visionaries, as well as a great number of world-renowned visionary artists. This network encompasses creators of various mediums and disciplines, all of whom recognize themselves to be part of the living lineage of the international Visionary Art Movement. CAVA was formed in order to organize, empower and catalyze the strong visionary artist presence in the region.

The Colorado Alliance of Visionary Artists acknowledges that we are an integral part of the living lineage of the International Visionary Art Movement. Members commit to uphold the Eight Fundamental Tenets of CAVA in both public and private life, and to conduct ourselves in accordance with those values and principles to the best of our abilities.

Art, in its role as a guiding force for culture, has a responsibility to dream a world that is possible, not simply to react to the fragmented world already existent.

The global Visionary Art movement is an expression of a cultural rebirth that is characterized by many forms of the fine arts as well as performance arts, healing arts, sciences, metaphysics, consciousness studies, permaculture, etc.

The principle of interconnectedness is inherent and applicable at every scale (the success of the individual relies on the success of the whole, and vice versa).

As an allied union formed for the mutual benefit of all members, the sharing of resources, opportunities and information is of paramount importance.

Actively learning and practicing the social arts of collaboration and cooperation shall take precedent over old-paradigm competitive models and mindsets.

One should strive toward excellence and mastery in one’s art as well as in one’s self.

As a representative of a conscious cultural rebirth, one should strive to act with integrity, compassion and empathy towards all people. If a mistake is made, one should endeavor to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.

Each tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire the individual toward higher action and thought.

These tenets are subject to evolution and refinement, just as are we.

Visionary art is art that purports to transcend the physical world and portray a wider vision of awareness including spiritual or mystical themes, or is based in such experiences. Visionary art encompasses a number of genres, including Surrealism, Pop-surrealism, and Fantastic Realism. Symbolism, Surrealism and Psychedelic art are also direct precursors to contemporary visionary art.

Contemporary visionary artists count Hieronymous Bosch, William Blake, Morris Graves (of the Pacific Northwest School of Visionary Art), Emil Bisttram, and Gustave Moreau amongst their antecedents. Well-known contemporary visionary artists include: Alex Grey & Allyson Grey, Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner, Arik Brauer, Mati Klarwein, Robert Venosa, Martina Hoffmann, Hikaru Hirata-Miyakawa, Brigid Marlin (founder of the Society for the Art of Imagination) and Laurence Caruana (founder of the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art).
